PURPOSE:To perform printing a document which has a vertical rule or vertically enlarged characters in both directions by delaying a printer by a variable timer at a predetermined unit of a dot driving period. CONSTITUTION:The width of the output pulse of a timer 7 is selectively set by the set state of a program switch from a table 1 stored in a ROM 2 as a value of mTM/n by dividing by n the control timing pulse period TM of a motor to delay a dot output timing, thereby slightly varying a printing position. Since mechanical displacements at both direction printing time are intrinsic in a printer, the program switch 23 is so set that the superposing accuracy of printing a vertical rule or vertically enlarged characters in both directions become best, and the fine correction of the printing position is executed. Thus, a throughout can be enhanced by approx. 1.5-2 times as compared with a printing in one direction.
