PURPOSE:To provide a composition for external administration, containing clorprenaline hydrochloride (a bronchial smooth muscle stimulant) and a specific release-improving agent in dissolved state to a base for external application, effective to promote the release of the above drug from the base and enabling the transcutaneous absorption of the drug. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition for external administration can be produced by compounding a base for external application such as ointment, cream, milky lotion, solution, lotion, etc., with (A) clorprenaline hydrochloride useful for the remedy of bronchial asthma, chronic pulmonary emphysema, bronchitis, etc., and (B) one or more kinds of release-improving agents selected from glycols, aliphatic mono - dicarboxylic acid mono - dialkyl esters, araliphatic alcohols, N,N-diethyltoluamide, dimethyl sulfoxide and crotamiton is dissolved state. The transcutaneous absorption of the above drug can be improved in the composition. The drug in then composition has prolonged activity and is especially useful for the treatment of the fit of asthma, etc., at night or in early morning. It is preferably applied to a part close to the bronchus or lung, especially to the chest skin.
