In a process for the combustion of waste matter, the waste matter is dried in a drying phase in a first process stage, dryer waste gas being produced, and combusted in a combustion phase in a second process stage, furnace waste gas being produced, a part of the furnace waste gas and a part of the dryer waste gas being branched off the combustion phase and the drying phase respectively and blended to form a first mixed gas, and the first mixed gas is conducted back to the drying phase and used for drying the waste matter, the remaining part of the furnace waste gas being blended together with the remaining part of the dryer waste gas to form a second mixed gas, the heat of which can be used, in particular for preheating the combustion air of the combustion phase. According to this process, a mixed gas temperature of over 700 DEG C can be achieved, in particular in the case of sludge also, and the environmentally suitable disposal of wet waste without additional fuels is thus also possible.

|
