PURPOSE:To provide a reversing transmission device having simple constitution, by a method wherein a loosely rotatable gear and a chain sprocket, located on a driving shaft, are coupled with a gear and a loosely rotatable chain sprocket, respectively, situated on a driven shaft, directly or through a chain, and an engaging piece, serving to prevent the occurrence of reversing, is mounted each shaft. CONSTITUTION:A loosely rotatable first driving gear 34, located on a driving shaft 26, is engaged with a first driven gear 38 on a driven shaft 32, a driving chain sprocket 35 and a driven chain sprocket 41, situated on the two shafts 26 and 32, respectively, are intercoupled through a transmission chain 42. Since an engaging piece 37 on the driving side and an engaging piece 43 on the driven side are situated on the two shafts 26 and 32, respectively, so that the engaging pieces are movable only in the direction of an axis, through axial movement of the two engaging pieces 37 and 42, either the first driving gear 34 or the two chain sprocket 35 or 41 is engaged with the shafts 26 and 32, and this enables easy change of the rotation direction of the driven shaft 32.
