PURPOSE:To eliminate wasteful reprint by providing means for detecting a seam of continuous sheet, means for tracing the seam position and means for detecting sheet jamming, thereby eliminating the retransmission of printing data to a host machine in case of sheet jamming near the seam including the seam. CONSTITUTION:Seam tracing means 50 traces the position of the seam of a sheet from the seam detection output of seam detecting means 26. When a sheet jamming is detected by jam detecting means 35, whether the jam imcludes the seam or not is judged by referring to the seam tracing means. When the fact that the jamming includes the seam is decided by this judgement, the unnecessity of retransmitting printing data is notified to a host machine to cut off the retransmission of the data. If the distance from the seam detecting position to the jamming detecting position is l and the distance of three pages is l2, unnecessity of retransmission is notified as the jamming occurs at any blank page when the seam position P of the seam tracing means is disposed between (l-l2) and (l+l2) at jamming occurrence time, thereby preventing the reprint.
