PURPOSE:Asphalten is mixed with polyurethane prepolymer resulting from reaction between a diene rubber bearing hydroxyls in its molecule and a polyisocyanate, and the mixture is emusified in water to give an emulsion of rubber-modified asphalten. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100pts.wt. of melted asphalten are modified with 1-30pts.wt of a polyurethane prepolymer resulting from the reaction between (A) a diene liquid rubber, preferably bearing hydroxyls on its chain terminals and has 1,000-5,000 molecular weight, such as butadiene-styrene copolymer and (B) more than 1 mold, per 1 hydroxyl in A, of polyisocyanate, preferably diphenylmethane diisocyanate, and the modified asphalten is combined with water, surfactants or dispersants to form an emulsion, which is subsequently passed through a homogenizer. |
