PURPOSE:To obtain a chlorinated rubber of outstanding characteristics in ozone and oil resistances weatherability, flame-retardancy, strength, etc., also with markedly improved processability, by chlorination of ethylene-alpha-olefin- vinylnorbornene copolymer rubber. CONSTITUTION:An ethylene-alpha-olefin-vinylnorbornene copolymer rubber containing ethylene and alpha-olefin (e.g., 1-butene) units in a molar ratio 50/50-95/5 (esp. 70/30-98/2) and also containing vinylnorbornene unit (e.g., 5-vinyl-2-norbornene) in a ratio of 3-30(esp. 5-25)mmol per 100gr of the total amount of said ethylene and alpha-olefin is chlorinated to obtain the objective chlorinated rubber with a chlorine content 10-45wt% and Mooney viscosity [ML1+4 (121 deg.C)] 10-190. It is recommended that each 0.05-2pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. of said chlorinated rubber, of a hydrochloric acid absorber, antioxidant and metal deactivator be added to the final rubber.
