PURPOSE:To obtain a power-saving thermal head having good thermal respondency and capable of forming fine patterns with good yield by using a noncrystalline glass for a heat-storing layer. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal head having a base plate 1 of alumina, etc., a wear-resistance layer 2, a heating element 3, and a conductor layer 4, when an undergraze (heat-storing layer) of noncrystalline glass is used, the surface roughness becomes p-p1mum or less, and the forming yield of fine patterns is increased. Since the apparent thermal resistance of the heating element in the thermal head is increased and the heat capacity is reduced, the thermal respondency is improved. Also, since the energy density characteristics and the thermal conductivity of the undergraze are lowered, the transmitting efficiency of heat to papers can be improved and a 60% or more power-saving thermal head can thus be obtained. |
