PURPOSE:To obtain a gyrocompass with which a high-precision azimuth is obtained by varying a liquid tank by a fine angle periodically and forcibly irrelevantly to the azimuth of a rolling ball and thus eliminating the static friction of mercury. CONSTITUTION:The deviation between the azimuth of the rolling ball and the azimuth of the liquid tank which is generated between follow-up electrodes 7A and 7B and a beltlike electrode 8 is inputted to a deviation detection part 9 and made into a deviation voltage, which is amplified 92 and outputted to a servomotor 10. This circuit 12 is provided with switches S1-S3 which switches connections among parallel DC electrodes 13 and 14 with the mutually opposite polarities, a detection part 91, and an amplification part 92, and a switch switching control part 15 which performs switching control over the switches at constant timing. Namely, the liquid tank 2 is rotated by the fine angle in the alternate opposite directions at a period at which there is no influence exerted upon the azimuth of the rolling ball, thereby varying the azimuth of the liquid tank forcibly. Thus, the liquid crystal azimuth is rotated by the constant angle for a constant time periodically to eliminate the static friction of mercury equivalently.
