PURPOSE:To obtain tea leaves having improved color and fragrance, by introducing an endless conveyer charged with raw tea leaves into a steaming chamber, heating and steaming them, feeding them to a temperature controlling chamber and further heating and steaming them. CONSTITUTION:Raw tea leaves in a hopper 2 forming a feed part 20 are fed in fixed thickness through a uniformly raking pawl wheel 21 to an endless conveyer 14 driven through a motor 12 and a speed reducer 13, introduced to a heating and steaming chamber 30, heated by steam at about 100 deg.C jetted from jet holes 33a of stem nozzles 33 and steamed. Then, the raw tea leaves are sent to a temperature controlling chamber 40, further heated and steamed by feeding steam from suction holes 41 and 43 provided with dampers 41a-44a and by exhausting excess steam from exhaust vents 42 and 44 and taken out at a position passing through an exhaust hole 47.
