PURPOSE:To obtain small particles of fluorescent substance useful for a fluorescent face with high-luminance, high-precision and high cathode ray tube useful for cockpits or projection in high yield by grinding single-phase synthetic fluorescent substance particles, pulverizing them and heat-treating them. CONSTITUTION:For example, a green fluorescent substance of single-phase Y3Al5O12:Tb is synthesized by a conventional procedure and ground by a ball mill at 60rpm number of revolutions for 15hr. Then, the ground material is blended with BaF2 of flux and further crushed for 1hr. The ground substance is packed into a n alumina crucible, the temperature of the ground material is raised up to 1,500 deg.C at 200 deg.C per hour rate of heating by a furnace, the ground material is kept at 1,500 deg.C for 2hr, cooled in the furnace and washed to give the aimed small particles of fluorescent substance.
