PURPOSE:To readily and economically obtain a highly water (esp. saline solution)-absorptive resin by copolymerization between hydroxypolyethoxy(polypropoxy)monoallyl ether and another monomer component consisting mainly of ethylenic unsaturated group-contg. carboxylic acid followed by crosslinking. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin can be obtained by copolymerization between (A) a hydroxypolyethoxymonoallyl ether (pref. with the polymerization degree of polyethoxy being 10-350) and/or hydroxypolyethoxypolypropoxymonoallyl ether (with the polymerization degrees of polyethoxy and polypropoxy being 10-350 and 2-100, respectively) and (B) a water-soluble monomer component consisting mainly of (i) ethylenic unsaturated group-contg. carboxylic acid [e.g., (meth)acrylic acid] and/or (ii) its derivative in a weight ratio, normally, 90/10-20/80 followed by crosslinking with a crosslinking agent (e.g., epichlorohydrin, diglycerin diglycidyl ether).
