The recirculation controller uses a controlled valve in the recirculation connection. The control valve is opened in response to throttle opening and has a delay determined by a timing device. The timing device uses a pressure contact to control the excitation of a solenoid valve. A switch is closed by movement of a membrane which has one side connected to the engine inlet vacuum and the other to a spring. The membrane is perforated, so that a rapid change in pressure due to changes in throttle openings are not immediately communicated to both sides of the membrane, allowing a transient pressure difference sufficient to close the switch.
