The invention relates to a baffle for the transmission of sound waves, particularly for counters used in public places, administration, service-providing offices and shops, for example, where the staff are separated from the public by a barrier wall; it relates also to barrier walls fitted with such a baffle. According to the invention the baffle comprises two half-shells 1, 2 having a middle 11, 21 in which is an opening 111, 211 and a peripheral wall 12, 22 that has a housing 121, 221 for an annular bracing ring 3 surrounded by an elastic seal 4 inserted between which is the perimeter of a vibrating diaphragm 5 separating the two half-shells, a number of parts 6 for holding the half-shells together, two protective plates 7, 8 each in one half-shell, and parts 9, 10 for bracing and fixing the protective plates, some of which also serve for the fixing of the baffle to the barrier wall A. <IMAGE>
