PURPOSE:To provide an emulsifier having, in the molecule, radically polymerizable double bond, capable of being introduced into the resultant polymer as a monomer as well as acting as an emulsifier in the polymerization, capable of producing such polymer films as to be free from deterioration in the adhesivity, water resistance, heat resistance, etc. CONSTITUTION:For example, (meth)allyl glycidyl ether and a hydroxyl compound of formula HO-(AO)m-R2 (R2 is 8-24C hydrocarbon or acyl; A is 2-4C alkylene; m is 0-50) are allowed to react at 50-160 deg.C for 3-20hr in the presence of, normally, a catalyst such as a tertiary amine or NaOH to obtain the objective emulsifier of formula (R1 is H or CH3; X is H or nonionic or anionic hydrophilic group). The group X in said formula is pref. -(AO)n-H (n is 0-100), -(AO)l-SO3M [l is 0-20; M is H, alkyl; (alkaline earth) metal or (1-4C hydroxyalkyl)ammonium], etc. USE:In emulsion polymerization, 0.1-20wt%, on a solid basis of the resin emulsion, of this emulsifier is used.
