PURPOSE:To permit printing to be performed with unlimited widths for a printer by a method in which a pattern of right-directed 90 deg.-turned letters and lines is formed by using a display buffer not in use during printing and sent out for printing. CONSTITUTION:When the width of one line of the content of a document is larger than the printing width of a dot printer, a pattern to be printed is developed in a display buffer 17 through an one-line assembling processor 12 and a pattern developer 14, and the pattern is extracted with a right-angled direction row in relation to the developing period to form a sideward pattern for one line by a printing pattern former 20. The sideward pattern for one line is output the dot printer 22. Since the display buffer 17 is used, the needs for using a large-capacity of memory for forming patterns can be eliminated, and even specific printing patterns, e.g., equal assignment, rule extension, etc., can also be simply processed.
