The used heated lye is stored by mounting a store (3) on the side of the tub (2). The clean-flowing water is guided up to the inner wall of the tub by means of the water-supply nozzle (8), so that the water, while it flows down, is heated. After the water-supply operation has been concluded, the cooled lye is discharged into the drainage system from the store (3) by means of a lye pump (4). The following economical benefits arise as a result of this operation: 1. The water is heated only by the amount of the difference between the desired temperature (for example, 95 DEG C) and the temperature of approximately 50 DEG C already reached in this case, thus leading to an energy saving of approximately 20%. 2. Moreover, the water consumption is reduced by approximately 25%, since there is no need for the laundry to be cooled after the main washing operation. Because the water required for the first rinsing operation is heated to approximately 50 DEG C in relation to the above case (95 DEG C), on the one hand the creasing of the laundry is sufficiently reduced, but on the other hand a thorough rinsing operation in the already heated rinsing water also becomes possible. Since the second rinsing operation also takes place at an increased temperature (approximately 25 DEG C), it is possible to save one rinsing operation. 3. This invention appears to be environmentally friendly to an appreciable degree, since the lye is conveyed into the drainage system only in the cooled state and, at the same time, the quantity of waste water is significantly reduced. <IMAGE>
