PURPOSE:To prevent the repeat of unnecessary supply operation when a diluent exists, by making the number of times of developer supply operation for the presence of the diluent different from that for replacement of a diluent vessel after running-out of the diluent and making the latter value larger. CONSTITUTION:With respect to the control operation of a microprocessor 58, the number of times (5 times) of developer supply operation for the presence of the diluent is made different from that (20 times) for replacement of the diluent vessel after running-out of the diluent, and the latter value is made larger. Thus, the repeat of unnecessary supply operation is prevented when the diluent exists, and the trouble that the supply operation is stopped before the developer is supplied sufficiently is prevented when the diluent is replenished.
