PURPOSE:To remove various bad effects due to signal level differences among sensor chips by making the direction of charge transfer between adjacent chip sensor different. CONSTITUTION:A line of CCD line image sensor chips 101-105 is formed by vapor-depositing (or sticking) R, G, and B filters (not shown in figure) on photodetection surfaces of respective photo-cells and those five chips are arranged in a line. It is practically impossible that the charge transfer efficiency of a CCD is improved to 100%, so a discontinuous level difference is generated without fail as long as two chips are equal in charge transfer direction. For the purpose, very adjacent chips are made opposite in the transfer direction of accumulated charges to evade the generation of differences in the color tone and density of a read image.
