In a glowplug having a heater resistor (5) arranged in the tip of a sealed ignition tube (6) which emerges from the body (10) of the glowplug, and having a control resistor (3) which is connected electrically in series with the heater resistor and has a positive temperature coefficient, the control resistor (3) being connected at one end to the voltage terminal (1) of the glowplug and the heater resistor (5) being connected at the other end to the ignition tube (6) and thus to earth, in order to improve the deactivation behaviour of the glowplug with simultaneously reduced sensitivity with respect to overvoltages a ceramic resistor (3) is provided which replaces a metallic control coil which spatially directly adjoins the heater resistor, the said ceramic resistor (3) being arranged in the body (10) of the glowplug at a distance from the said heater resistor (5) while maintaining a thermal coupling with the said heater resistor (5). <IMAGE>
