An apparatus for the spreading of fertilizer has a supply container, received by the platform of a vehicle, with outflow orifices and with metering members which are arranged under them and which transfer the fertilizer to pneumatic transport lines located underneath, and a raisable and lowerable pneumatic spreading unit which has a plurality of transversely extending spreading lines which open onto the outside at varying distances from one another at distributor members and can be folded into a travelling position via joints located near the vehicle and which consist of a plurality of portions foldable against one another via further joints and which are connected on the inside to at least one blower via a respective injector and an air distributor, each transport line opening into an injector of a spreading line. In order, in the travelling position, to avoid too wide an overhang and too great an overall height, along with a simultaneous reduction in the weight and increase in the stability, the spreading lines arranged with their injectors vertically one above the other and all the folding joints are arranged vertically, the stroke height of the spreading unit being calculated so that the spreading lines can be folded down above the supply container.
