A description is given of a strip loop storage device for the continuous operation of roll stands, roll trains or strip-treatment installations in a rolling mill, the storage device being intended for the storage of a predetermined proportion of strip (20). The strip loop storage device according to the invention provides a multiplicity of return rollers of different diameters (10, 12; 11, 13) situated opposite one another and arranged in respective horizontal rows, only those return rollers of the same diameter (10, 12; 11, 13) being in direct operative connection with one another and designed to be switched on and off together. The return rollers of the same or approximately the same diameter can be accommodated in their own separate frames (1, 2). This gives a storage system for metal strips of widely differing thickness - within a range of about 0.15 - 3 mm - and it is possible to connect up or disconnect part of the system without shutting it down. However, it is also possible for the return rollers of different diameters to be arranged in one frame one above the other or one below the other. <IMAGE>
