PURPOSE:To allow a called party to recognize who gives a call later by using a DTMF (dual tone multi-frquency) tone as a caller idetification signal so as to display the signal on a display device. CONSTITUTION:In a telephone set where the DTMF tone is generated by depressing the button of the telephone set of a caller when the caller listens to a voice message or a signal, the button is used to send a caller identification number, and an a telephone set where no DTMF tone is generated, a DTMF tone generator is used and the tone is sent to the reception side through a microphone of the telephone set. The DTMF tone from the caller is demodulated by a reception section 7 through an antenna multicoupler 4 and detected by a caller identification section 10. A control section 9 discriminates the caller identification number, inquired about the date and time to a timer section 11, stores the caller identification number and the data/time to the memory section of the control section 9 and displays them on the display device 15 through a telephone set controller 13.
