PT--81817 A Imide derivs. of 2-oxo pyrrolidine, of general formula (I) are made by (a) forming the oxime of the aldehyde 3-butenal; (b) reducing the corresp. amine with a metal hydride; (c) reacting with an appropriately substd. benzoyl chloride to form an alkenyl imide; (d) subjecting this to an ester-selective cyclisation in presence of a mercury salt; and (e) reducing in situ with sodium borohydride.
