Self-adjusting clutch actuating device with a clutch pedal, capable of swivelling about an axis, and a gear segment, capable of swivelling about the same axis, on which a tension element acts, and with a locking pawl device, swivel-mounted on the clutch pedal, which device in a disengaging movement of the clutch pedal comes into engagement with the gear segment and couples this positively to the clutch pedal, and in a subsequent engaging movement of the clutch pedal is disengaged from the gear segment by a pawl stop shortly before the pedal reaches its rest position, the gear segment being loaded in the direction of backlash compensation under the action of a spring force. Two independent locking pawls are supported on the same bearing shaft, of which one interacts with a first series of teeth and the other with a second series of teeth of the gear segment, the two series of teeth/locking pawl arrangements being arranged staggered in the circumferential direction of the gear segment in such a way that the one arrangement reliably meshes if the other arrangement, in the worst possible case, is just coming to lie tooth crest on tooth crest, and vice versa. <IMAGE>
