PURPOSE:To always splice optical fibers in an optimum state by measuring preliminarily or knowing the speed and the interval between end faces of optical fibers fed at a discharging time and defining the overlap length at the time, when optical fibers are pressed in by discharge heating, to splice them. CONSTITUTION:An illuminating lamp 30 is set in one side of optical fibers and a microscope 32 and a TV camera 34 are set in the other side to obtain expanded images 12a of optical fibers 12. An optimum overlap length (l) is preliminarily determined, and an advance speed (v) of optical fibers 12 is measured at each splicing time, and optical fibers 12 are advanced for a prescribed time (t) based on this speed; and thus optical fibers always overlap by the prescribed length even if the speed (v) is changed, and the are spliced in the optimum state. |
