PURPOSE:To enable to accurately detect an allowable residual ink quantity, by a method wherein an ink chamber a part of a wall surface of which is formed of an elastic member is provided in an ink-supplying passage, and the residual ink quantity is detected through the impedance of an ink between electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A residual ink quantity monitoring device is provided at a part of an ink passage between a base plate 36 of a recording head and a cover slip 37. In the device, an ink-supplying pipe 22 for a hollow needle and an ink chamber 46 communicated to a pressure chamber are provided, electrodes 43X, 43Y are provided on opposite sides of a partition wall 41, and an upper part of the ink chamber 46 is covered by a film form elastic member 45. As the residual ink quantity is reduced, the member 45 is deformed as indicated by 45A, 45B and comes into contact with a top part of the wall 41, thereby cutting off the communication of the ink between the electrodes 43X, 43Y. By measuring the impedance of the ink between the electrodes, the allowable residual ink quantity can be accurately detected by a small-type lightweight construction. |
