PURPOSE:To check a torque variation, by controlling the extent of throttle valve opening so as to equalize the generating torque of an engine to the same accelerator opening at both times of driving specified cylinders and their partial driving. CONSTITUTION:Engine cylinders are divided into plural sets and a drive suspending device is installed in cylinders of the preset specific set. Opening of an accelerator pedal 70 is detected by an accelerator opening sensor, and a throttle valve 38 is opened or closed by a throttle valve on-off device. And, with a throttle opening device, it is set up according to the accelerator opening so as to cause the generating torque of the engine to become equalized to the same accelerator opening at both times of driving specified cylinders (at four- cylinder driving) and partial driving (at two-cylinder driving). With this constitution, a torque variation at the time of selection from partial cylinder driving to all-cylinder driving is reducible.
