PURPOSE:To detect the presence or absence of an ink ribbon cassette securely and reliably with a small inexpensive mechanism, by providing a detecting means to be engaged to an ink ribbon cassette at a part of a frame in a moving range of a carriage, and operating the detecting means for a predetermined period of time through a movement of the carriage. CONSTITUTION:A frame 1 supports guide shafts 7, 8 for movably guiding a carriage 2 in the directions of arrows D, E, a platen 10 and a detecting lever 12 (detecting means) which is supported through a detecting lever shaft 13, and a leaf switch 11 is fitted to the frame 1. A position at which a home position detector (not shown) is activated by the carriage 2 moved in the direction of the arrow E is a stand-by position of the carriage 2. Where an ink ribbon cassette 3 is present when the carriage 2 is in a stand-by condition, an end face of the cassette 3 pushes a part 12-1 of the detecting lever 12 to turn the latter in the direction of an arrow B, resulting in that the other end part 12-2 of the lever 12 makes the leaf switch 11. Accordingly, the presence or absence of the cassette 3 can be detected when the carriage 2 is in the stand-by condition, upon which an alarm relating to the presence or absence of the cassette 3 is issued, or a printing mode is switched over. |
