PURPOSE:An antiviral agent containing a physiologically active substance having properties of causing hemorrhagic necrotic reaction in tumorous sites. CONSTITUTION:An antiviral agent containing a physiologically active substance (TNF) having cytotoxicity to L-M cells and properties of causing hemorrhagic necrotic reaction in tumorous sites when administered to BALB/C mouse transplated with Meth A Sarcoma. The TNF is obtained by sensitizing a rabbit with BCG, etc., inducing with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and extracting and purifying the induced TNF from blood serum or producing the TNF in a microorganism, e.g. Escherichia coli, or animal cell infected with a plasmid containing integrated structural gene of the TNF and purifying the resultant TNF. The TNF may be used individually or in a mixture form with human blood serum albumin. The agent is orally or parenterally administered in 10<2>-10<5> units/kg/day dose once-divided in 3 portions a day.
