PURPOSE:To perform smooth inserting action, by providing a guide rod, equipped with a supporting part supporting one end of a cam shaft, while a press-in rod supporting the other end of the cam shaft and pressing it to a side of the guide rod. CONSTITUTION:A guide rod 7 is inserted into a fitting hole 12 of a cylinder head, protruding a supporting part 23 in the point end of the rod 7 from a fitting hole 12-1 in the side end, and a cam shaft 15 is held between such supporting part 23 and a press-in rod 9. Thereafter, the shaft 15, while it is rotated at a low speed by the both rods 7, 9, is inserted from a side of the fitting hole 12-1. Here the length of a guide peripheral surface 25b in the point end of the guide rod is formed over the most distant two neighboring fitting holes 12-2, 12-3. Accordingly, the guide rod 7 smoothly performs its movement because the rod 7 is always guided by the fitting holes 12-1-12-7.
