METHOD FOR ASSEMBLING FILTER PRESS TYPE ELECTROLYTIC CELL

PURPOSE:To prevent the liquid leakage from the tightening part of an ion exchange membrane reinforced with a woven fabric contg. sacrificial yarn by subjecting said ion exchange membrane to a pretreatment and further to a pretreatment so as not to form the gaps based on the sacrificial yarn and assembling the ion exchange membrane. CONSTITUTION:The ion exchange membrane reinforced with the woven fabric contg. about 10-95wt% sacrificial yarn is subjected to the pretreatment such as hydrolysis and/or swelling treatment and thereafter the circumference thereof is tightened to assemble a filter press type electrolytic cell. The liquid having the compsn. with which the deterioration and elution of the sacrificial yarn arise hardly is used as the treating liquid for the above-mentioned pretreatment or the membrane is treated with a medium such as aq. salt soln. which does not elute the sacrificial yarn right after the membrane is subjected to the above- mentioned pretreatment. The formation of the gaps based on the elution of the sacrificial yarn in the tightened part of the above-mentioned ion exchange membrane is prevented by such pretreatment. The leakage of the liquid from the tightening part of the above-mentioned ion exchange membrane is thus prevented.
