PURPOSE:To obtain a recording device capable of forming an image by a simple scanning system without erasing the contents of a picture plane at the time of recording and reducing its size by dividing light radiated through a substance by a dividing means, displaying one divided beam on a display means, scanning other beam by a scanning mirror and recording the scanned contents on a recording means. CONSTITUTION:A beam from a light source is transmitted through an original 1 and divided by a beam splitter 3 consisting of a half mirror through an image formation lens 2, one divided beam forms its image on a screen 4 and the other beam is made incident upon the scanning mirror 5. The beam made incident upon the mirror 5 is reversely advanced, reflected by the beam splitter 3 and made incident upon a photoreceptor 6 to record the image of the original 1. Since the space between the beam splitter 3 and the scanning mirror 5 is efficiently used as an optical path, the size of the machine body can be reduced.
