1,242,286. Fluidic rate of turn sensor. R. E. BOWLES. Oct.14, 1968 [Oct.18, 1967], No.46829/68. Heading G1C. [Also in Divisions G2-3] A variable gain vortex amplifier 33 is mounted coaxially with the axis of a pendulum (4) in a hydrofoil control system (see Division G2-3) to provide a signal indicative of rate of turn about the pitch axis. An aerofoil 37 is located off-centre in the outlet 36 of the vortex chamber and is provided with sensing ports 37, 38 which provide pressure signals c, d having relative magnitudes dependent upon the rate and direction of turn. The vortex chamber is supplied from a pure fluid amplifier with fluid as a pressure determined by signals corresponding to such parameters as the hydrofoil speed, load, or direction or the wave height. The gain of the vortex amplifier is shown to be a function of the inlet pressure and, consequently, of the latter parameters.
|
