PURPOSE:To attempt improvement of the accelerating performance and smooth transfer between respective charging operations by operating two kinds of superchargers for a medium and high loading range in low speed running of an engine and one kind of supercharger for a low loading range in high speed running thereof, and also opening a control valve as the throttle opening is decreased when the former operation is shifted to the latter operation. CONSTITUTION:An intake pipe 3 from an air cleaner 2 is communicated with the compressor 4a of a turbocharger 4, besides, the exhaust pipe 5 of the compressor 4a is communicated with the compressor 6a of a supercharger 6. On the other hand, the exhaust pipe 12 of an engine main body 1 is communicated with the turbine 4b of the turbocharger 4. And, in a single operation region, a control valve 11 is fully opened with an electromagnetic clutch 23 turned off, then only the turbocharger is operated. In a combined operation region, the electromagnetic clutch 23 is turned on with the control valve 11 fully closed, then both of the turbocharger 4 and the supercharger 6 are operated. In addition, in an operation transition region, the control valve is opened as the throttle opening is decreased.
