PURPOSE:To obtain the titled curing agent which can give a cured epoxy resin product excellent in impact resistance and cracking resistance and high in heat distortion temperature, comprising a specified carboxylic acid and an acid anhydride. CONSTITUTION:A curing agent (B) for epoxy resin is obtained by mixing a carboxylic acid having at least one polymerizable double bond and at least one carboxyl group in the molecule of the formula (wherein R1 is H or alkyl, R2 is alkylene and R3 is alkylene, alkenylene, phenylene or cycloalkylene) with an acid anhydride (e.g., tetrahydrophthalic anhydride) at an equivalent ratio of 5/95-60/40. An epoxy resin (A) is mixed with component B at a B to A equivalent ratio of 0.6/1-1.2/1 and the resulting mixture is further mixed with, optionally, a radical polymerization initiator, a reaction catalyst, an organic peroxide, etc., (C) to obtain an epoxy resin composition.
