PURPOSE:To obtain a thermosetting resin excellent in water resistance effect and ink receptivity and useful as a paper coating resin, by reacting a polyalkylenepolyamine with an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid, a urea and formaldehyde. CONSTITUTION:A polyalkylenepolyamine (a) is reacted with an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid (bi) and/or a reaction product (bii) having free carboxyl groups, obtained by reacting an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid with a glycol, a urea (c) and formaldehyde (d). Examples of component (a) include diethylenetriamine and iminobispropylamine. Examples of component (bi) include tetrahydrophthalic acid and its anhydride. Said reaction of the alicyclic dicarboxylic acid with the glycol is carried out by heating usually at 80-200 deg.C for 30min-2hr.
