PURPOSE:To speed up processing and improve decision precision by applying some straight line to a point sequence by utilizing a minimum square-law method and deciding the linearity of the point sequence, and composing a device of a dedicated circuit. CONSTITUTION:A point sequence address generator 2 accesses position coordinate data on respective points which constitute the point sequence stored in a point sequence storage memory 1 successively. Those coordinate data are inputted to a cumulative arithmetic circuit 3 to cumulate respective coordinates (In, Jn) into In.Jn, In<2>, Jn<2>, In, and Jn simultaneously in parallel. When coordinate data on point sequence constituent points are all accessed, a microprocessor 4 inputs the cumulative arithmetic results from the cumulative arithmetic circuit 3 to calculate a linear equation and a linearity decision expression. Then, the calculation result of the linearity decision expression is compared with a specific threshold value to judge whether or not a straight line is applicable to this point sequence.
