PURPOSE:To minimize the quantity of consumption of an unrecorded area on an optical disk by installing other rewritable recording media on the optical disk in parallel, temporarily updating information in this recording media and finally updating information on the optical disk. CONSTITUTION:The 1st recording medium 1 is constructed of the optical disk, and information is updated by sequentially writing information in the unrecorded area. When a file is opened, a top block number in the unrecorded area of the recording medium 1 is initialized on a file control table 4. If information updating is instructed, the new information is written in the rewritable 2nd recording medium such as a magnetic disk or a memory device 3. When a file is closed, the finalized updating information on the recording medium 2 or the device 3 is sequentially written in the unrecorded area of the recording medium 1 according to the instruction of the file control table 4. Thus information can be updated without uselessly consuming an unrecoded area on an optical disk.
