Non-comedogenic cosmetic emollients

A method for imparting non-comedogenicity to a cosmetic composition which comprises incorporating into a cosmetic composition a predetermined amount of an ester of ricinoleic acid to act as an emollient, said ricinoleic acid ester having the formula wherein: R1 is a straight or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl group having between one and 40 carbon atoms; R2 is hydrogen; connected to a straight or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl group having between one and 40 carbon atoms; or between one and 40 moles ethylene or propylene oxide; and the total molecular weight of R1 and R2 is at least about 150, preferably greater than about 170.
