PURPOSE:To omit the need to give the IPL control information proper to each channel to a CPU by providing a status showing that an initial program loading IPL action is possible to each channel device and at the same time storing an initial program in an external memory device of each channel. CONSTITUTION:In a start mode a CPU1 reads the status of a status information holding part 20-1 to a channel device 3-1 and obtains the information showing that an IPL action is impossible. Then the CPU1 tries to read the status to channel #1 but cannot read it to the end owing to an unpacked state. Then the status of a channel #2 is read out of a status holding part 20-2 of a status channel device 3-2. As the IPL action is possible with this status, an IPL start command is produced to the device 3-2. Receiving this command, the device 3-2 reads the IPL control information out of a disk device 6 and transfers it to a main memory 2. This procedure is applied also to other channels.
