PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of secondary defect and to improve the yield of a product by arranging a pair of high pressure water nozzles respectively for the side face and end face of a slab and by jetting the high pressure water to the scarfing droop to be caused on the side face and end face of the slab. CONSTITUTION:Spraying units 4a, 4b, 4c are respectively arranged on the upper and lower faces and side face of a slab 1 by providing the roll 3 which moves the slab 1 as well. The upper face spray 4a and lower face spray 4b perform the spray to the slab end part by detecting accurately the end part of the slab 1 by a length measuring machine 5 and control unit 6. The side face spray 4c performs the spray on the side face of the slab 1. The droops of the side face and end face of the slab 1 are removed by spraying the high pressure water from the spray 4a, 4b, 4c in case of scarfing the slab 1 by the nozzle 2 of a scarfer. In this way, the secondary defect by scarfing is prevented and the product yield is improved as well.
