PURPOSE:To eliminate deterioration in resolution even when an original is dislocated from the prescribed position more or less by setting a moving part having a lens array and an image sensor at two places, reading for each line, and making one reading signal binarize by using other data smaller in changing quantity as a threshold. CONSTITUTION:With the illuminating light of a light source 3 held at a contact type image sensor main body part 51, an original 1 is irradiated. The reflecting light of the original 1 is received to a lens array 5 and an image sensor 4 equipped with a moving part 52 to be able to displace to the main body part 51. The moving part 52 is set at different places, in respective states, the same line of the original 1 is successively read, and the reading signal of respective states to the same line of the original 1 is quantized by a quantizing means 12. These quantized signals are compared 70, the signal smaller in changing quantity is made into the threshold signal, the signal larger in changing quantity is made binary 17 based upon the threshold signal and the original is read.
