PRODUCTION OF BASE MATERIAL FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To produce the titled base material having a uniform thickness of a diffused layer by adding and diffusing an alkoxide to the inside of a tubular porous high-purity silica body which is horizontally positioned. CONSTITUTION:Silicon rubber 2 is inserted onto one end of the tubular porous high-purity silica body 1 and is hermetically sealed. A silicone tube 3 is connected to the other end and is positioned horizontal. The alkoxide of the element to increase a refractive index is then added through the tube 3 to diffuse the alkoxide 4 into the porous body 1 and is then dried and sintered.
