PURPOSE:To make low loss coupling possible without making aligning of cores by providing the first stage that butts ends of optical fibers without making aligning and couples by fusion welding and the second stage that makes diameter of the junction 80%-50% of original diameter by pulling. CONSTITUTION:End parts of two optical fibers to be coupled are butted without aligning and coupled by fusion welding, and coupled by pulling the both ends while the junction is at high temperature to make the diameter of the junction 80%-50% of diameter before pulling. When the diameter of the optical fiber is made small by pulling, axial deviation becomes small proportionally, and diameter of core decreases in proportion to decrease of diameter of the optical fiber. The rate of decrease of spot size that indicates the extent of field distribution is smaller compared with decrease of diameter of the core. |
