Device for increasing the thickness of an oil slick between the floats of two catamarans towed by an oil tanker. The stern of an oil tanker 1 drives the seawater-oil mixture between the floats of two catamarans (port and starboard) 2, by means of flexible deflectors 3 having rigid reinforcement which is welded to the hull. Each catamaran is provided with a device consisting of vertical partitions 4 which are perpendicular to the current and which progressively sink deeper below the water level. These vertical partitions rake the seawater-oil current. Under the combined effect of this movement and of buoyancy, the oil moves up and successively fills each section 5, 6, 7, 8, (reaching a depth of 2 metres in the last one 8). <IMAGE>
