The invention relates to an appliance for removing growth from paved areas, tiled paths or the like, with a rotary-driveable drum, disc, roller or the like having cutting tools fastened to it. Known appliances, such as mowing machines or lawnmowers, with rotating or reciprocating knives or cutters can cut off grass or weeds only at a specific height above ground level, so that cleaning is only very incomplete. Setting the knives or cutters lower involves the risk of destruction or at least no longer acceptable wear, whilst the growth rooting in the gaps and crevices between the slabs or tiles remains out of reach within the gaps or crevices. The invention solves this problem by using as cutting tools metal tines which are arranged offset relative to one another on one or more part circles on a tine carrier, in such a way that, in the working position, they extend essentially perpendicularly to the ground to be cleaned and are pressed down with a predetermined force. As a result of the deformability of an individual tine, even crevices and gaps below the general level can be scraped out. Unevenness and obstacles merely cause an elastic shift, but not increased wear or destruction. Moreover, automatic wear compensation over a long ... Original abstract incomplete.
