The invention relates to a means of levitating and centering, whilst making it turn, a 22 kg deck constituting the main part of a turntable for conventional records. It consists in using an annular vessel in which a given quantity of mercury is placed. The circular annulus situated in the lower part of the deck is immersed in the mercury and experiences a thrust. Owing to the concentricity of the faces of the vessel and of the annulus, the annulus serves as its own spindle. The device is supplemented through the use of a belt drive which contacts the edge of the deck at four points only: these points are diametrically opposed and the forces which apply there being equal but opposite, cancel one another out in pairs. In this way, during its rotational motion, the deck is automatically returned towards centre 1. The aim of this mounting is to avoid resorting to mechanical methods calling upon machining operations which are never perfect and which deteriorate over time, however good they may be initially. <IMAGE>
