PURPOSE:To concentrate an aqueous solution of polymers without causing deterioration of the polymers which are susceptible to the temperature, by bringing an aqueous solution of polymers into contact with a mixture of water-absorbing polymer agents and substances having high osmotic pressure through a semipermeable membrane which selectively allow water to permeate. CONSTITUTION:As semipermeable membranes which selectively allow water to permeate, cellophane, vinylon film of low-stretching, collodion membrane, etc., are used. As for water-absorbing polymer agents, those substances are used which are capable of forming a gel when mixed with water and produced by the graft polymerization between monomer having a property to polymerizable monomer or oligomer that are water soluble or becomes water soluble by hydrolysis and polysaccharides such as starch and cellulose. As substances having high osmotic pressure, food sugars, natural water-soluble polymers, etc., are used. When a mixture of water-absorbing polymer agents and substances having high osmotic pressure are contacted with aqueous solution of polymers through semipermeable membranes, only water contained in the aqueous solution moves to the layer of water-absorbing polymer agents through the semipermeable membranes, so that said aqueous solution is concentrated. |
