<p>A process for the selective or simultaneous elimination of noxious substances, in particular sulphur oxide and/or nitrogen oxide, from smoke gas through irradiation of the smoke gas with electron-beams. The process is implemented in successive stages, using at least two stages arranged in line and provided each with an electron accelerator or an electron accelerator head as electron-beam source. The smoke gas is irradiated by partial irradiation doses which when added up give the desired total irradiation dose. The smoke gas is forcibly and thoroughly mixed between the irradiation stages. The irradiation chamber of each stage is adapted to the form of the irradiation field, its dimensions being approximately equal to the effective range of the electron-beams used in the irradiation chamber.</p> |
